Error: Not enough memory resources are available to complete this operation

Overview

While using the Velixo Copy Workbook without Formulas feature or distributing reports where formulas are being removed, the following error message is displayed:

An error occurred while copying workbook {workbook name}.

Not enough memory resources are available to complete this operation.

[Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000e (E_OUTOFMEMORY)]

 

Most Likely Cause

The error message is very accurate.  Excel has run out of memory while trying to create the requested copy of the workbook.

The most likely cause of this error is that somehow MANY (often hidden) named regions have been created within the workbook.

When this occurs, it is typical that the Excel Name Manager...

... is not even able to open to process them all (this is an effective first step in identifying the issue).

 

Resolution

The Velixo Technical Support Team is experienced in resolving this.

Please send a copy of the workbook that is experiencing this issue, and we would be happy to remove the problematic named regions and send the cleaned workbook back to you.

  

 

Less Likely Causes

While much less likely, this issue can be seen on systems with low levels of RAM memory - especially when used with 32-bit Excel. 

Checking the size of the file:

and using Windows Task Manager to monitor the CPU and Memory usage of the Excel process:

 can be helpful in gathering information.
