Installing the Velixo Tools

Some features of Velixo NX, most notably Report Distribution, are only available if you install a helper product called Velixo Tools.  This product is a special "background agent" add-in for Microsoft Excel that does not have any user interface of its own; it only shows up in the "Add or Remove Programs" menu, as well as in the add-ins menu of Microsoft Excel.

💡 Velixo Tools is only available for Microsoft Windows. Mac OS and Excel Online are not supported.

Why do I need to install the Velixo Tools to use Report Distribution?

If you attempt to use any of Distribution-related options without having installed Velixo Tools, you will receive a notification in the Status pane mentioning "This functionality requires Velixo Tools" with a link that redirects you to this article.

The reason is that modern Office add-ins, including Velixo NX, are "sandboxed" - meaning they cannot write files to your hard disk or interact with other applications.  However, such functionality is crucial in the context of Report Distribution, where the generated reports are stored at the specified locations or are sent by email using Microsoft Outlook.

Close Excel

Ensure that all instances of Excel are closed.  This is necessary for Excel to activate Velixo Tools when it next starts.

Run the installer

Once you have found the file you just downloaded, open/run it to install the Velixo Tools.
