Description

When downloading the installer for Velixo Classic or an Excel workbook containing Velixo functions, antivirus software can falsely identify the file as being suspect or actually containing a virus.

Cause

We do battle with false positives from time to time with some antivirus vendors and always communicate with them when it does happen to ensure our solution is whitelisted.

The root of the problem is that malware vendors often embed the same (100% legitimate) components that we use to support Velixo.  Some past reports of this center around ExcelDna, our main Excel interop library.

Steps

Step 1 - update your antivirus software definitions

Please update the virus definitions for your antivirus software.  There may be an update available that does not create the false positive for the Velixo component.

Step 2 - let us know

If you continue to experience the issue, please let us know.  Please provide:

  • The version of Velixo Classic you are using
  • The name of your antivirus software
  • The version of your antivirus software
  • The operating system you are using
  • The version of your operating system

We can then communicate to the antivirus vendor and attempt to have our solution whitelisted within their product.

Step 3 - restore the file

In the meantime, it may be necessary to find the "Quarantine" section of your antivirus software to restore the file you are attempting to work with.
